Tanya M. Odom '88
Tanya M. Odom is co-President along with Craig Slutzkin of the Board of the Townsend Harris High School Alumni Association. She is the first female President of the Board. She works with the Board to continue the tradition of the Association, and continue strengthening the relationship with the school and 5,000+ alumni.
She is a highly regarded consultant, facilitator, trainer, teacher, speaker and coach . She has conducted hundreds of workshops for adults and youth around the United States and the world.She is the co-author of "Evaluation in the Field of Education for Democracy, Human Rights and Tolerance.” She writes columns and/or blogs for Diversity Woman, Insight into Diversity, and Workshifting. She is currently working on a book with Civil Rights activist Mel King.Ms. Odom works with schools, universities, and corporations in the United States and Europe in their efforts to address diversity and inclusion issues and create sustainable change.
She is also the Director of Innovation and Social Media with The FutureWork Institute. In this capacity she has worked with many Fortune 100 companies in their Diversity and Inclusion efforts.Ms. Odom has a passion for working on issues of educational equity. She has worked with schools and school districts around the world, on issues including: diversity, strategic planning, leadership, and creating safe and inclusive learning environments, etc.
She has spoken on issues of race and multiculturalism on Newstalk Television cable show and HOT-97 radio program. Her work, research and commentary have been mentioned in Fortune Magazine, The Daily News, and the Village Voice. She has appeared on a program for IDTV, an online diversity education vehicle,and Diversity Matters, an Internet radio show.
Tanya has traveled extensively, and has both lived and worked abroad. She has lived and/or worked in 20 countries, and is fluent in Spanish.
She is currently on the faculty of the new human resources management program at Georgetown University. Tanya has taught at Princeton University in the Junior Summer Institute. She has also been an adjunct professor at Manhattanville College, where she taught graduate courses in the areas of diversity, leadership, and team development. She has also taught a course at the Center for Conflict Resolution at the University of Capetown in South Africa. She currently serves on the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Alumni Council and is the vice president for strategic planning on the board of directors of the Vassar College Alumni Association.
Tanya has a masters degree in education from Harvard University. She received her B.A. in anthropology/sociology with minor in women’s studies from Vassar College.
