Martine Guerrier '89
Martine Guerrier ’89, serves Senior Policy Advisor for Community Partnership and Engagement to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Prior to this appointment in 2010, she served for three years as New York City’s first chief family engagement officer or “Chief Mom,” improving communication with families in support of student achievement and building a network of support for parent leaders.
Martine oversees a division budget of over $12 million and is responsible for establishing the Office for Family Engagement and Advocacy. She has created a number of signature family involvement initiatives for New York City public school families including “Native Language Forums” for engagement of immigrant families; District Family Days; OFEA’s Family Reunion —a citywide end-of-year sports day; Family Back to School Kickoff; the RISE parent newsletter; and the online resource SchoolSource NYC with RMC Research and Thirteen.
Martine is an accomplished civic leader and education budget and policy expert. From February 2004 to March 2007, she served as the Brooklyn representative to the New York City Department of Education’s Panel for Educational Policy, appointed by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.
She was also a trustee of the Board of Education Retirement System (BERS). Martine served as the principal legislative representative for the budget coalition, Education Priorities Panel. She lives in Brooklyn.
