Cassandra Hanley '89

Cassandra Hanley ’89, is the chair of the board of directors of COMPASS, a non-profit group that utilizes volunteers, mainly alumni from top business graduate schools, to provide pro-bono strategic consulting services to other Washington D.C.-area non-profits. Cassandra has been involved with COMPASS for more than six years, including serving as vice chair of the board and Chair of the development committee. She led three COMPASS projects, including a board development project for a local charter school as they evolved from a start-up operation to a governing board.

Cassandra also worked for a homeland-security consulting firm supporting companies with unique applications to develop partnerships with large-scale integrators and different levels of government. Prior to that assignment, she worked at the US Small Business Administration’s Office of Entrepreneurial Development and the US Economic Development Administration. Her other professional experience includes work in the White House Office of Women’s Initiatives and Outreach, as a legislative assistant for Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Democrat of New York, and as a community liaison for Representative Floyd H. Flake.

Cassandra received her master’s in business administration from Harvard Business School, a masters in public policy from Duke University and her bachelor of arts degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton. Cassandra, her husband, Marc Sumerlin, and their young twins are residents of Arlington, Virginia.
