THAA would like to invite you to a networking and social event for alumni attorneys and law students. It's been said that Townsend Harris churns out more lawyers-to-be than any other profession. We hope you will attend and help us determine just how accurate that statement is!
Here are the details:
- Date/Time: Wednesday, February 8th at 7 - 9pm
- Location: M1-5 Bar/Lounge, 52 Walker Street, between Church St. & Broadway (Subways: 6; J, M, Z; N, Q, R, W, A, C, E at Canal St)
- Cost: $10 at the door to cover hors d'oeuvres; cash bar will be available. You may also prepay by credit card by clicking here.

| | 02/05/2012 | Museum of Modern Art Tour | Tour at the Museum of Modern Art
Come tour the MoMA with us on Sun, Feb. 5th at 12:30pm.
We have a group reservation for an hour-long tour of the Museum of Modern Art. Adult entry is for $10 and children (16 years old and below) entry is for $5. This group rate is more than half-off the usual admission! Each participant will also receive a family-pass (up to 5 individuals) to return to the museum for free on another day.
Our tour will be guided by a MoMA educator and will focus on the highlighted art pieces of the museum as well as the architecture of the building itself.
We know everyone is excited for the Superbowl on Sunday, but you can still make it home in time! You can expect to leave the museum by 2pm (unless you want to stay longer, of course).

| | 01/21/2012 | Lunar New Year Celebration | 2012 Lunar New Year Celebration – Year of the Dragon
Please join the THHS Alumni Association for a Lunar New Year Celebration. This is a time to welcome longevity, wealth and prosperity and to eliminate any negative chi from the past. This is also an advantageous time eat some great dim sum.
This event will take place at 2pm on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Ping’s Restaurant. Ping’s Restaurant is located at 22 Mott Street in the heart of Chinatown. This will be a great opportunity to meet and greet other alumni from all years.

| | 11/28/2011 | WWII Remembrances of D-Day Sicily, through the Eyes and Camera of Bentley Kassal '33 |
Decorated war hero Judge Bentley Kassal shares his experiences during WWII, through personal photographs and narration. Judge Kassal, current litigation counsel at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom & Associates, is a former Justice of the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court. At 94, he shares his powerful memories and photographs as well as his insights concerning the current military campaign in Afghanistan.

Judge Kassal is a member of the class of 1933. He is also a member of the Townsend Harris Hall of Fame. On June 5, 2009, he received the French Legion of Honor Medal from the French Defense Minister Herve Morin at Les Invalides in Paris with a ceremony at Colleville-sur-Mer (Omaha Beach) Normandy where he and his wife were photographed with President and Michele Obama on June 6, 2009.
| | 11/18/2011 | SING! to be Performed Two Nights! | This years SING! competitions will take place on November 18 at 7pm and again on November 19 at 6pm. Come join us to watch the Harris students perform their hearts out. The competition will be held at the high school at 149-11 Melbourne Avenue, Flushing, NY 11367. | | 11/10/2011 | Founders' Day 2011 to Feature Nily Rozic '04 | This year, Founders' Day is Thursday, November 10th. The Freshman class will follow the tradition of reciting the Ephebic Oath at Queens College's Kupferberg Auditorium from approximately 9:30 to 11am. All alumni are welcome to attend the celebrations to renew this pledge together!
We are excited to have Nily Rozic, a graduate of the Townsend Harris High School Class of 2004, as this year's keynote speaker. Nily is currently the Chief of Staff to New York State Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh, a member of Queens Community Board 8, and a prominent member of the Queens County Young Democrats Women's Caucus. We are excited to have Nily share her life and work experiences with the Townsend Harris Community.
| | 11/09/2011 | THHS Open House for Prospective Students | The THHS open house for prospective students is next week, on Wednesday November 9th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm! Please RSVP to volunteer by Monday, November 7th by emailing Ms. Veronica York at vyork@schools.nyc.gov.
THHS is looking for volunteers who will help lead groups of 10-15 visitors with the aid of talking points and/or greet families while they are waiting for their tour. Even though the open house starts at 5pm, you are encouraged to arrive by 4:30 for instructions.
| | 09/24/2011 | Steven Torres '89 Remembrance Event | Steven Torres of the Class of 1989 passed earlier this year.
When Steven passed away this May, we lost a very special member of our Townsend Harris family. In so many ways, both as a student and throughout his life, Steven exemplified so many of the ideals that are instilled in us as part of our Townsend Harris experience – his loyalty and dedication to his family, classmates and friends, his commitment to serving his community, and his efforts to make a meaningful contribution to the world.
We cannot replace Steven, but we can honor him by coming together and celebrating his life. We hope that you will be able to join us on September 24 for this Remembrance Event dedicated to Steven. The event will be held at the high school building, located at 149-11 Melbourne Avenue, Flushing, NY 11367.

The Class of 1996 will be celebrating its 15th year reunion on Saturday evening, September 17, 2011. The event will be held at Hurley's Saloon (www.hurleysnyc.com), located at 232 West 48th Street between 8th Avenue and Broadway in Manhattan from 8pm to 11pm. Please keep your profile updated so we can keep you up-to-date.
Tickets are $15 per person if you pay on or before September 13 ($20 after or at the door) and includes hors d’oeuvres and one drink ticket for a soda, beer, wine or well drink. There will be a cash bar for additional drinks.

| | 05/21/2011 | Health-a-palooza 2011: Keith Hanson named Honarary Chairman! | Please join us on Saturday, May 21 for our first annual Townsend Harris healthapalooza from 9am to 1pm. This is a health-focused event for alumni, their families, current THHS students, and faculty members. There will be an assortment of activities that not only test your knowledge of health-related subjects, but also your physical strength!
The event will be held at Townsend Harris High School, 149-11 Melbourne Avenue in Flushing.
The planning committee is pleased to announce longtime physical and health education instructor Keith Hanson as our honorary chairperson for the event! Be sure to come and participate in some of the muscle-boggling activities he will help coordinate for the Townsend Harris family!

Along with the reunion, we are including all alumni from the original Townsend Harris at this homecoming event. The event will be held on Saturday, May 7th 2011 at Townsend Harris High School, located at 149-11 Melbourne Avenue, Flushing New York.
The event will be from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm and lunch will be served. Everyone will have an opportunity to share your stories about Townsend Harris, life and work.

| | 04/18/2011 | THAA Wine and Tapas Tasting | On Monday, April 18th from 6:00 pm - 8:00pm, the Finance, Insurance and Real Estate Networking Group of the Townsend Harris Alumni Association will be hosting a Wine and Spanish Tapas tasting event at Buceo 95. Buceo 95 is located at 201 West 95th Street between Broadway & Amsterdam Avenue. The cost for the event is $45 per person which includes entry, the tasting of four-five delicious wines paired with regional Spanish Tapas. Sommelier John Davidson will lead us through a fun and relaxed tasting. Space is limited and the sommelier insists on a firm headcount so we highly recommend you to RSVP early.

| | 03/19/2011 | Annual THAA Family Day | This year's family event will be held at Townsend Harris High School in Flushing, on Saturday March 19th from 10am to 1pm. Come with your family to participate in safari-themed arts and craft projects and enjoy some light snacks. You will also get a chance to meet current THHS students in Archon who will be volunteering to lead these projects. If you or your family hasn't seen the school building yet, students can lead you on a personalized tour.

| | 03/13/2011 | THHS Robotics Competition at Javits Center (March 12 & 13) | The students of Townsend Harris will be participating in the US FIRST Robotics competition this weekend (March 12-13) at the Javits Center in midtown Manhattan! In this competition, students design and construct a mechanical robot. If you have the time, then drop by to say hi to the team, get a tour of the pit and talk to the students about their robot creation. The two teams representing THHS - FRC teams 2601 (boys) and 3742 (girls) - will be there both days.

This will be an important meeting for all who are interested in working on student outreach.
The Townsend Harris Alumni Association is once again recruiting alumni to be ambassadors in neighborhoods around the city and to reach out to their own middle/junior high schools to make sure that students across New York City know about Townsend Harris. The meeting has been designed to give you all of the background and information you need to maximize the benefits of your "ambassador visits" to schools around the city.
