By now you’ve probably heard – on Saturday afternoon, April 21, the Townsend Harris family will be honoring Wanda Nix with a ceremony to dedicate the school gymnasium in her name. Students, alumni, parents, faculty and friends will be on hand to celebrate the career of Ms. Nix, longtime Athletic Director and Dean and original TH faculty member who retired last June.
Aside from the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony, we will have fun events to commemorate the occasion. In the coming weeks, you’ll receive more details on these events and learn how you can participate. There will also be time to mingle with Ms. Nix and fellow Harrisites – some of whom you may not have seen in years. We will also have light refreshments for the convocation.
Few teachers have inspired their students in the way that Ms. Nix has. Physical Education teacher at Townsend Harris for 27 years, and Athletic Director 24 of those years, her passion for fitness, competition, sports and education have been a hallmark of her time at THHS.
We ask that you let us know if you will be attending so that we may get an accurate headcount. And while there will be no entrance fee for the dedication ceremony, we are suggesting a contribution which will go towards both defraying the costs of day as well as towards the programs of the Athletics Program that Ms. Nix built over her career. Either way, please let us know if you are coming by email us at nix@thaa.org.

But keep in mind, these contributions are at your discretion; any amount – large or small – would be appreciated – and no one will be turned away based on contribution.
